Point of Sale systems are always tied to establishments like restaurants, hospitality services and retail businesses. But what do we really know about its basics? How does it work and what does it fundamentally add to the empowerment of the industry that led it to be one of the most used systems in business technology? Well worry no more; this is a run through of the POS system’s basic functions.

To start everything up, let’s answer the question what is a POS system? A Point of Sale system is a combination of hardware and software to build a system that is responsible for transactions for a restaurant, hospitality service establishments and retail businesses. This includes the screen or display of the system which can be compared to that of a computer’s monitor. This is where you edit your product prices and this also displays the transactions and the totals of your customers’ orders. Also included in the package is the cash register that can mainly be controlled by the software accessed by the display. For retail variants of the POS system, it usually includes a scanner for the barcodes of products. Major grocery stores and malls need this to determine the price of a product which is stored in a database. Another important component of the hardware family is the receipt printer. And I guess there’s no more need to explain that part.

Day by day, it is becoming more and more of requirement as cloud storage is capable of storing your store’s data with the use of the internet to avoid internal issues such as lack of security and expenses due to extension of memory storage. And don’t expect it to stop there; POS systems are growing more and more as time passes by.
